my bf & i had a house fire last yr & the landlord had insurance on the duplex but we didnt have renter insur. Now the landlords insurance company is putting us at fult, which it kind of was, & demanding for more money than the duplex is worth & threating to repo anything we own. & now we saw that they tore it all down & put the lot up for sale. can they really ask for that money & repo anything we own?
ok. the amount is 8,000. theres no way in hell we’re going to pay that. we can barley afford rent now. That would take our whole lives to pay that off. & I for one would like to enjoy my life & spend my extra money on whatever i want, not worrying about this.
As far as giving them a large sum for them to take instead…. they can have 0 & kiss my ass
& we had only lived there for 2 weeks. we were still in the process of moving stuff in. lucky that stuff was saved. but we just didnt plan on getting renters insur right away. we were planning on getting it that next week after we got our paychecks.

monthly. Our monthly payment with this increase is 50.00 per month. I am a Stay at home Mom and we can not afford this!! He told us to try to get our own coverage when we moved in 2 months ago ( we tried, but unless you are the homeowner- you cant change the policy) and he will not fax over documentation to Allstate. They quoted us 1200.00 a year!!
What can we do?? We did not sign a lease for 50! Our lease shows 00.00 a month. We love our home- it is perfect for us. But we cant pay for this home!!! Please give me some advice.
WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO MOVE AND LANDLORD IS NOT RESPONDING TO OUR CALLS/EMAILS/LETTERS!!
My husband is already working 16 hours a day 6 days a week. We only have one car and I have to be home with our baby…
We are under a lease. 12 months. It is stated in it that we are to pay 50.00 a month with a .00 credit if we pay on time.

Help! We moved from one state to another. Landlord did not do inspection after we moved, even tho we asked, so I took video. Sent us bill for various items. I disputed light bill, they admitted overcharging, and adjusted. They Insisted we broke blinds, which we did not, and that we did not clean baseboards. Charges went down to , which i still refused to pay – I had a team in there cleaning, left the place spotless. Next I knew, they reported to Credit report. Would love to sue them to court – have lots of evidence, even letter from apartment owner saying we are great tenants, but then I’d have to fly back to Texas. Disputed item in Credit report, but after investigation, it remains. Its a matter of principle – I do not want to pay the money (I can afford it) becasue they do that to everyone, and I KNOW I would win in civil court. So, who can I report them to, what can I do, or should I just leave the item on the credit report and ignore it? We found out when renewing car insurance!

Our window was broken by people renting across the street. The tenants said they are not paying for the new window (they said it was an accident, and we should have insurance — we do, but there is a deductible that I think they should be obligated to pay since they broke the window), and I have not been able to get ahold of the property owner yet.
I would guess that the tenant would be responsible, but since they are renting, and the ball that broke the window came from the landlord’s property, so I am not sure who holds liability.

I rent and someone came by with camera and said they were from an insurance agency and needed to take photos of the home. This doesn’t sound right. Is landlord trying to sell the home? Anyone have any idea?

Do landlords have to disclose these kinds of things? I lost a lot of property that I stored in my garage and connecting storage area due to a flash flood. My neighbors have informed me that this has happened many times but my landlord never told me of this possibility. He claims this has only happened once, 7 years ago, and it was because the city’s storm drains were clogged. He has offered no compensation, only help removing ruined property. I have renter’s insurance but it doesn’t cover floods.
