How much home insurance coverage should I get for the dwelling?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Buying a house and the bank wants to see an insurance policy purchased up front, this is a little different than I remember the last time we bought a house as they took care of everything. My question is how much am I required to insure? The loan amount will be for around 0,000 but it’s a standard ranch style house about 2200 square feet, nothing special about it. The insurance company says it doesn’t need to be for the exact loan amount. About how much would it cost to build a new house if a meteor crashed into it?

Can I ever get home insurance again if a previous one has been cancelled?

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

About 1 yr ago I cancelled my DD for my home insurance to cut costs. My bank then said as I never told them directly they have refused my insurance policy and that I would find it difficult to get another policy. I am now looking to start another home insurance policy but they all ask the question if I have been refused before? What does this mean? As it is obviously important to have it as you never know what will happen.

What type of insurance should an owner-builder carry during course of construction?

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Our family is building a second home. We have a general contractor who is putting up the shell. However, we will be doing all of the interior and exterior finishing ourselves. We have tried to get a home owner’s insurance policy, but they won’t cover us until we have the house finaled. We are looking for both coverage for the cost of the structure and liability insurance. What kind of policy should we be looking for and what type of insurance agents should we be contacting?

homeowners insurance?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Hi everyone – I’m not sure if anyone can help me, but I thought I’d ask here…

I’m in school and an artist (in CA) a new project I’m working on depicts the recent wildfires and the people dealing with the aftermath (the good the bad and the ugly)

I had the idea of one of the structures of the piece being a home, but made out of strips from a homeowners insurance policy (paper mache of sorts) HOWEVER – I don’t own a home (literal starving artist here) and really don’t know anyone who does –

sooo, I was wondering if anyone who has a home and a policy, or an insurance agent even, would be willing to scan and e-mail me a policy (important info blacked out obviously) or if it is a blank form, watermarked up the hilt to ensure it can’t be utilized in any other manner…so that I can complete my vision…

I’d like to be able to duplicate it and cut strips so that when people look at this part of the structure, they will know and understand the meaning of the strips…if your/the policy has a clause about fire damage, even better…

my e-mail is marieofmanycolors@yahoo.com if anyone is willing to help me out.
I’m aware of that "C" – that is why I’m asking actual homeowners as that constitutes their approval if they do send it to me (and note I specificaly said to black out ANY personal information) – or for a BLANK form with no personal information whatsoever from an agent.

Home insurance?

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

I am not sure how much home insurance coverage I should have for the house I bought 2 years ago. The cost of the house including the land was ,000. But that includes the price of the land, etc.

I now have to renew the home insurance policy and realized maybe I should reduce the amount of the coverage from ,000 to around ,000. The dwelling amount for the insurance has been the price I paid for, ,000. But if something happens and the house needs to get rebuild, the cost of building should not be as high as ,000. I currently owe mortgage ,000.

Do you have any recommendation? I do not know if I can ask the insurance agent to reduce the dwelling coverage. But I am hoping a way to save money on the home insurance.
Could someone give me an advice?

Thank you.
