can my landlords insurance company ask me for money from a house fire?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

my bf & i had a house fire last yr & the landlord had insurance on the duplex but we didnt have renter insur. Now the landlords insurance company is putting us at fult, which it kind of was, & demanding for more money than the duplex is worth & threating to repo anything we own. & now we saw that they tore it all down & put the lot up for sale. can they really ask for that money & repo anything we own?
ok. the amount is 8,000. theres no way in hell we’re going to pay that. we can barley afford rent now. That would take our whole lives to pay that off. & I for one would like to enjoy my life & spend my extra money on whatever i want, not worrying about this.

As far as giving them a large sum for them to take instead…. they can have 0 & kiss my ass
& we had only lived there for 2 weeks. we were still in the process of moving stuff in. lucky that stuff was saved. but we just didnt plan on getting renters insur right away. we were planning on getting it that next week after we got our paychecks.

Self factoring – insurance?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

I own one of 6 flats in an listed tenement building.

We have had a factor for 2 years but they have not been very good at all. We recently voted to get rid of the factor and to try self factoring.

However, I am struggling to find reasonable sources of shared building insurance (the factor previously managed this and one home owner has had major issues with the insurance company and wants to end that contract too).

I wondered if anybody out there has self factored?

What kind of issues came up?

Any sources of advice?

How did you manage building insurance for shared areas as a self factor?

How much home insurance coverage should I get for the dwelling?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Buying a house and the bank wants to see an insurance policy purchased up front, this is a little different than I remember the last time we bought a house as they took care of everything. My question is how much am I required to insure? The loan amount will be for around 0,000 but it’s a standard ranch style house about 2200 square feet, nothing special about it. The insurance company says it doesn’t need to be for the exact loan amount. About how much would it cost to build a new house if a meteor crashed into it?

What if I finished my basement without getting permits? I used quality contractors. How can I get insurance?

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

Home already insured, but I added basement without getting permits. It is professionally done by many of the same contractors who built my house originally. If I changed insurance companies now, had them do a wlk through, and my house burns down later. Will the new insurance company ask to see permits and/or original plans to my house in order to decide what they will pay for? Net/Net: What can I do now to make sure my house is insured fully, besides tearing down my basement drywall for inspection?

what type of insurance do I need? I am having my existing home demolished and having a new home built. ?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

I currently have a homeowners and flood insurance policy. Who do I need to contact regarding my plans? Insurance company? Mortgage company? Do I need additional insurance during the construction. The contractor will have his own liability and workman comp policy as required by the town. Thanks.

Which home insurance company should I choose?

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

I’m currently shopping for home insurance and I need some answers quickly. I currently have Allied Insurance and am thinking switching over to Western Mutual because of the cost for the policy. Anyone know the differences between the two and what’s the web site for checking reputations and so forth about an insurance company from the states i’ve living in??

Who is responsible for filing liability claim under renter's insurance?

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

The washing machine I own malfunctioned and flooded part of the apartment I rent. The landlord is billing me for charges incurred for replacing the carpet padding and providing blowers to dry the carpet.

I have renter’s insurance and have been told that the damages should be covered by the liability portion of it.

I asked the rental office’s manager to file a liability claim with my insurance company, but she refuses to do so and wants me to pay the bill right away.

I have also been told that I can not file this claim against myself. Is this information correct? If so, what should I do?
Thanks to everyone. I am clueless in these matters.

I have already reported the incident and an adjuster came over. She denied a claim because none of my belongins were damaged. But I have been told by someone to tell my landlord to file a liability claim against my policy.

Under "Liability Coverages" my policy indicates that "if a claim is made or a suit is brought against any insured because of bodily injury or property damage caused by an occurrence to which this coverage applies, even if the claim is false, we will:
a. pay up to our limit of liability for the damages …"

And under "Peril Insured Agains" it also indicates:
"Accidental discharge or overflow of water … from within a household appliance."

Is there a way they can deny the claim ?
